Paros mineral wealth
The mineral wealth of Paros is known all over the world. The history of Parian marble extraction dates back to protocycladitic era. This marble is considered unique in the whole world. The ancient quarries of Paros are located in the Marathi area, approximately 5 km from Parikia. These quarries are known for the excellent quality white marble, which has been mined there since the 7th century BC and was a source of wealth for the island. Famous sculptures such as the Aphrodite of Milos, the Hermes of Praxiteles and the Victory of Samothrace have been made from this marble.
Ekatontapiliani
The church is located in Parikia, just 200 meters away from the port and is one of the most important and best preserved Christian churches in Greece. According to tradition, the original building of this temple was the work of the Emperor of Byzantium the Great and Saint Constantine to fulfill the wish of his mother, Saint Helen.
